Willie A. Sanders
Willie A. Sanders, Sr.fondly known as "SON", was born November 14, 1913 to the union of Arthur
Sanders Sr. and Versie Thurmond-Sanders in Lexington, Mississippi. Son was the second of twelve
children born to that union. Preceding him in death were his parents, Arthur and versie; sisters, Ann
and Rosa; and brothers, Melvin, Theodore, and Arthur Jr.

Son received his early education at Lexington Grade School. He journeyed North to Chicago in
1942. He was drafted into the army in 1943 where he served until his discharge in 1946. He attende
Washburn Trade School, which prepared him for his life long career as the "Family Mechanic".

In 1944 he was united in holy matrimony to Zelmaree Epps. To this union one son, Willie Jr., known
as Billy was born. He confessed Christ at an early age and attended Zion Hill A.M.E. Church in
Lexington, Mississippi. He later converted to Catholicism and attended St. Dorothy's.

Son loved his family and was always there to lend a helping hand. He was an avid bowler, golfer,
and loved traveling.

He was employed by Burt Rose Ford for many years. He retired in 1979.

Son quitely departed this life on Monday, January 1, 2001, after a lengthy illness.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving son, Billy; four brothers, James, henry, John and
Benjamin. two sisters, Versie Williams and Flora Mayweathers; and a host of neices, nephews,
cousins and friends.
