Mrs. Versie Sanders was born in Lexington, Mississippi, December 12, 1888, and departed
this life Tuesday, december 18, 1962, 9 p.m. after a short illness.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bettie and Alfred Thurmond. She was
educated in the public schools of Lexington, Mississippi.
She was married to Mr. Arthur Sanders, December 14, 1910. To this union twelve children
were born of which eleven survive.
Mrs. Versie Sanders confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Sunny Mt. M.B.
Church. Later she joined Zion Hill C.M.E. Church to be with her husband where she worked
in the church; taught a Sunday School class and was also an active member in the
Missionary Society and Stewardess Board.
Mrs. Sanders and her husband moved to Chicago in 1954 and united with St. Paul C.M.E.
Church where she worked with the H.W. Evans Club and stewardess Board #1 until her
death.
She was a very kind and sweet Mother and a loving and devoted wife, always willing and
ready to do whatever she could for her family.
She leaves to mourn her passing a devoted husband and eleven children.
