“Producing, preserving, and increasing affordable homeownership opportunities for moderate income residents in the new Bronzeville”
Synopsis
This ordinance dramatically increases the chances for affordable homeownership for moderate income residents in Bronzeville by ensuring that:
1. The City allocate at least 26% of the more than 1,800 city-owned vacant lots in Bronzeville for affordable homeownership:
2. A referendum be placed on the November 4, 2008 ballot in Bronzeville, asking voters to decide whether or not to institute a Special Service Area to establish a Bronzeville Housing Trust Fund to support affordable homeownership in Bronzeville:
3. This Fund be governed by a commission of 9 Bronzeville residents, 6 elected by local voters and 3 appointed from nominations by local community organizations; and
4. First preference for Bronzeville’s Affordable Homes be given to moderate income residents with demonstrated roots in the Bronzeville community.
