Arthur Sanders was born November 18, 1886 in Holmes County near Lexington
Mississippi. The son of the late Ann Sanders. He went to Poplar Springs School. He joined
the Poplar Springs C.M.E. Church at an early age, and was appointed class leader that
same year. In 1910 he married Miss Versie Thurmond (who preceded him in death). To
this union twelve children were born of which eleven survive. Eight boys and three girls.

In 1913, they moved to another community and joined Zion Hill C.M.E. Church, where he
served as a trustee, Steward, and Sunday School Teacher, also Recording Steward for the
district.

In 1954 they moved to Chicago, Illinois and joined St. Paul C.M.E. Church where he
faithfully attende Sunday School and he worked diligently with the Rosebud Club. He was
appointed to the Steward Board, where he served until his death.

He joined the Masonic lodge in 1932 and was a 32nd degree Mason. [At the time of death:
John Jones Lodge No. 7 F.&A.M. Prince Hall affiliation.]

He was a very kind and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He
was always ready and willing to do whatever he could for his family and friends, His
philosophy was: "Not to get ready. but to be ready." when the lord calls.

He departed this life February 5, 1978 at Mercy hospital, Chicago, Illinois. [Burial: Fort
Lincoln Cemetery. Blue Island].
