Arthur Sanders Jr.
was born March 15, 1919, in Lexington Mississippi to the late Arthur and
Versie Thurmond Sanders Sr. Arthur affectionally referred to as Junior or Art, received his formal
education from the Lexington Public School System. He accepted Christ at an early age being
baptized in a pond near by the family church, Zion Hill C.M.E. in Lexington, Mississippi.

Arthur, was drafted by the United States Army, May 6, 1941, and served his country for four years.
After his honorable discharge September 28, 1945, Arthur migrated North to Detroit, Michigan
where he then pursued a trade (Barbering) taught to him by his father. Arthur graduated in the first
Michigan Barber College class, July 1947. That same year Arthur's child was born, a daughter
Phyllis.

Arthur worked hard as a barber, and as a result of his great work and effort, Arthur became an
instructor for the Michigan Barber College. A couple of years passed by, Arthur met a young lady
who soon became his wife and best friend. On September 13th, 1952, Arthur married Rutha Lee
Briscoe. To this union five children wren born. Paula who preceded him in death, Winston, Tangie,
Sytera and Koyan.

Arthur later managed the Michigan Barber School, and instructed at the Universal Barber College
for over twenty years. Arthur retired from the barbering business in 1993.

Arthur was a family man, mild mannered and soft-spoken. He was an avid bowler; Junior and his
brothers would travel state to state just to bowl. Arthur joined Hopewell M.B. Church in 1997, and
was a member in good standing prior to his untimely departure from earth, as we know. Some of
Arthur's favorite phrases were, "Fine as Wine", "Thank The Lord, Bless the Cook", after a good
meal.

Arthur departed this life on Wednesday, November 24th, 1999 after a long illness at the V.A.
Hospital. Arthur sanders Jr. leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and best friend, Rutha Lee
Sanders, five children, Phyllis Perry, Winston Sanders, Tangie Lavette, Koyan Sanders, and Sytera
Lynn Sanders, thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren as well as four brothers and two
sisters. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Versie, a daughter Paula, two
brothers, Theodore and Melvin, two sisters, Annie and Rosa.

His Presence Will Be Greatly Missed By All
